PORING OVER PORES: Our Professional Advice

Pores play a vital role in maintaining healthy skin, but they can sometimes be the source of your major skin concerns. From dilated to congested pores, understanding what causes issues and how to address them can help you achieve a clear, smooth complexion.

What are pores?

Pores are tiny openings on the surface of your skin that release sweat and sebum (oil). Each pore contains a hair follicle and sebaceous gland. While pores are essential for healthy skin function, they can become problematic when they are enlarged or clogged.

Several factors can cause pores to become dilated, congested, or form blackheads and whiteheads:

  • Climate and Temperature: Hot and humid weather can increase sweat and sebum production, leading to clogged pores. Be sure to change your skin care routine with the seasons, avoiding heavier products that can clog your pores in the summer months.
  • Sweat: Excessive sweating, especially if not cleansed properly, can mix with oils and debris, leading to congested pores. Be sure to cleanse after you work out or have been sweating.
  • Improper Cleansing: Not cleansing your skin thoroughly can leave behind makeup, dirt, and oil that clog pores. Double cleansing with a Lait (Milk) cleanser can help assure your skin is properly cleaned without damaging its barrier.
  • Wrong Products: Using products that are not suitable for your skin type can irritate the skin and exacerbate pore problems. If you’re unsure about what products you should be using, book a consultation with one of our experts!
